The installation of the filter is being carried out in the context of Thanksgiving Day, when vehicle traffic is lighter

On Thursday, November 28, authorities from the National Guard, the Secretariat of Citizen Security, and the National Institute of Migration installed the first security filter at the San Ysidro port of entry. The measure, announced during Tijuana Mayor Ismael Burgueño's "mañanera" press conference, was explained by Pedro Montejo, Secretary of Economic Development, who noted that the filter was placed on Thanksgiving Day, a time when vehicle traffic is typically lighter.

The filter serves two main purposes: to ensure the safety of the entire perimeter of the port of entry, including pedestrians, vehicles, vendors, and citizens, and to build trust between Mexican and U.S. authorities. This could lead to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents opening more lanes at the crossing.

After assessing the results of this first filter, Mexican authorities plan to install a second filter at the San Ysidro port of entry and a third at the Otay port of entry.
