In his lifetime, Miguel Ángel López Díaz was not only a wrestler but also a trainer

Mexican wrestling is in mourning following the death of Miguel Ángel López Díaz, known in the ring as Rey Misterio Sr. His son, the Hijo del Rey Misterio, confirmed the sad news through his social media this morning.

"Friends and family, I regret to inform you that my father, Miguel Ángel Díaz, Rey Misterio Sr., passed away this morning... We will keep you updated. Thank you," wrote the wrestler, who has also made a name for himself in the world of professional wrestling.

Miguel Ángel López Díaz was born in Tijuana on January 8, 1958. Throughout his career, he became one of the most important figures in Mexican wrestling. He was not only a prominent professional wrestler in the 1970s and 1980s but also a trainer who left an invaluable legacy for future generations.

He made his debut in the ring on January 6, 1976, at an event called "Día de los Reyes." In 1987, he opened a gym with Negro Casas and Super Astro, which became a training ground for future wrestling stars such as Konnan, Psicosis, Halloween, Damián 666, and his nephew Rey Mysterio, among others.
