The FDA issued an urgent alert

The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued an urgent alert in Illinois, Minnesota, and Wisconsin after detecting metallic and chemical contamination in a batch of frozen pizzas. The agency warned about the potential health risk to consumers.

Palermo Villa, Inc. has recalled 1,728 units of Connie’s thin crust cheese pizzas from the market. The affected products belong to batch MR199856, item number 19104, and establishment number 13410325396. Although the product's expiration date was November 27, it may still be stored in household freezers in the affected states.

The FDA urged consumers to check their freezers and dispose of the contaminated product, emphasizing that it should not be consumed. For inquiries, consumers can contact Palermo Villa, Inc.'s Consumer Service at 1-888-571-7181, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. CST.

The recall does not affect products outside the specified batch. So far, no illnesses or adverse effects have been reported, but authorities are continuing to monitor the situation to ensure food safety.

This case highlights the importance of strict oversight in the frozen food supply chain. The swift action by the FDA and Palermo Villa, Inc. demonstrates a commitment to public health. Residents in the affected states are advised to remain vigilant and follow official recommendations to prevent potential risks.
