Several schools in San Diego County will remain closed this Tuesday due to scheduled power shutoffs for public safety amid a Red Flag Warning affecting much of the region.

The San Diego County Office of Education announced that Julian Union Elementary, Julian Union High, Jamul-Dulzura Union, Mountain Empire, Spencer Valley, Warner Unified, and Ramona Unified school districts have canceled classes. Additionally, on Tuesday morning, it was confirmed that Del Lago Academy, Vivian Banks Charter School, and the Dehesa, Vallecitos, and Valley Center school districts will also be closed for the same reasons. "The safety of students and school staff is of utmost importance to the school districts in San Diego County," the institution emphasized in a statement.

The temporary closure of Harrah’s Southern California resort in Valley Center was also reported due to strong winds and mandatory power outages in the area.

San Diego Gas & Electric has alerted over 100,000 customers about potential power shutoffs across the inland valleys, northern coast, and rural areas of the county.

According to the National Weather Service, Santa Ana winds are expected to reach speeds of 20 to 30 miles per hour in most areas under the warning, with gusts of up to 60 miles per hour in the eastern parts of the valleys. The Red Flag Warning, which began at 10 a.m. Monday, will remain in effect until 4 a.m. Wednesday.
