Extreme conditions create a high likelihood of wildfires

The National Weather Service office in Los Angeles has issued a Particularly Dangerous Situation (PDS) Fire Weather Warning for much of the Santa Ana wind corridor in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties, effective through Tuesday. The PDS Warning is extended through Wednesday for the Susana Mountains.

Santa Ana winds, originating from the mountains of the same name in Southern California, bring hot, dry air from the east. While they can occur year-round, they are most common during the cooler months of fall and winter.

These strong winds are forecast to significantly impact Los Angeles and Ventura Counties from Monday night through Wednesday afternoon. Additionally, a Fire Weather Warning is in effect from Monday morning through Wednesday morning for all mountain and valley areas in San Diego County.

In the mountains, wind gusts could reach up to 70 mph on Tuesday, with relative humidity levels between 5% and 10%. Although winds are expected to decrease by Wednesday afternoon, humidity will remain extremely low, heightening the risk of wildfires.
