The economic boost could generate up to $15.7 million per minute

Cyber Monday is on track to become the largest online shopping day of the year, with record spending estimated at $13.2 billion, a 6.1% increase from 2023, according to Adobe Analytics.

This event, which originated in 2005, has established itself as a cornerstone of e-commerce, driven by promotions and marketing strategies. Spending is expected to peak between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m., with consumers spending up to $15.7 million per minute, Adobe reports. This follows the surge in online shopping recorded on Black Friday, which saw $10.8 billion in U.S. sales, a 10.2% increase compared to the previous year.

A Snapshot of Holiday Spending Trends

The figures from Cyber Monday and Black Friday reflect strong consumer spending despite inflationary pressures. However, the growing use of “buy now, pay later” plans and rising credit card debt highlight financial strain among shoppers.

Meanwhile, brick-and-mortar stores continue to see declining foot traffic: Black Friday visits fell by 3.2% according to RetailNext. Many retailers have extended their promotions, diluting the traditional one-day shopping frenzy.

Analysts note that, in addition to traditional items like toys and electronics, there is growing interest in experiences and self-care products, signaling a shift in post-pandemic consumer habits. Information from APNews.
