Washington, Oregon, and Nevada are on alert
The National Guard has been put on alert in several states, including Washington and Oregon, as a precaution against possible civil unrest related to Tuesday’s presidential election. Recently, reports have emerged of damage to hundreds of ballots and the burning of at least three ballot drop boxes. In Vancouver, Washington, nearly all the destroyed ballots belonged to one drop box, while in Portland, Oregon, most ballots in another drop box survived an arson attack. Portland police are investigating these incidents, which are believed to be linked to a third fire that occurred on October 8.

Washington Governor Jay Inslee announced that the National Guard will be on standby to support law enforcement, noting that the threat to "election infrastructure" remains high. In Oregon, Governor Tina Kotek stated that the National Guard is prepared, while political leaders are calling for peaceful protests.
Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo also reported that 60 National Guard soldiers are on standby to ensure a safe Election Day. Preparations include the activation of more than 3,000 police officers in Washington, who will work 12-hour shifts.
Authorities across the country have been intensively planning for Election Day in response to the January 6, 2021, insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. Three law enforcement associations have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity related to the elections.
