On Tuesday, November 5, the U.S. elections will take place, and some branches will adjust their hours to support voting

One of the most common questions around Election Day is whether banks and the post office will be open. Here’s some information to help you plan ahead this year.

Millions of votes have already been cast ahead of Election Day, and millions more are expected to head to the polls on Tuesday, November 5. Most businesses will remain open, as Election Day is not a federal holiday. However, some businesses have adjusted their hours or given employees the day off to encourage participation.

Are Banks Closed on Election Day? Banks such as Wells Fargo, Bank of America, TD Bank, and Regions Bank will not be adjusting their hours on Tuesday. Banking services, including ATMs and online banking, will operate normally.

Is the Post Office Closed on Election Day? The U.S. Postal Service will deliver mail on Tuesday, following its holiday schedule. Some states observe Election Day as a civic holiday, giving state employees the day off.

Will Stores Be Open on Election Day? While banks and post offices will remain open, some national retailers have adjusted their hours to make it easier for employees to vote. Bath & Body Works will open at noon on November 5—two hours later than usual—to allow workers time to vote. Best Buy is offering employees eight hours of paid leave to volunteer on Election Day.

Patagonia will close its stores on Tuesday, October 29, in celebration of National Early Voting Day, giving employees a paid day off to vote early.
