Tijuana merchants report strong sales of cempasúchil flowers after Día de Muertos.

Mexican traditions have successfully stood out in Baja California, particularly in Tijuana, where florists on 5th Street in the city’s downtown area have reported a successful weekend selling cempasúchil flowers, even after the conclusion of Día de Muertos celebrations. Many merchants managed to sell nearly all of their initial investment and plan to discount the remaining stock in the coming days; some will use the flowers to decorate graves that did not receive visitors.

Local florist Ricardo Carvajal emphasized that while the demand for cempasúchil remains strong in the region, the festivities in southern states like Mexico State and Michoacán are more extensive and prolonged. However, he noted that sales in Tijuana have been satisfactory.

On the other hand, flower merchant Jessica Medina pointed out that the industry has grown significantly compared to previous years, despite increasing competition, largely due to the presence of street vendors near their businesses. Nevertheless, the production of cempasúchil in Baja California has facilitated ongoing sales, as many people continue to seek the flowers to honor their deceased, even after the main dates of celebration.
