The decision was made due to frequent complaints about late-night disturbances and inflated fares

On Monday, the San Diego City Council unanimously voted to ban amplified music in pedicabs, increase insurance requirements for operators, and require written fare agreements before each ride. The decision comes in response to numerous complaints about excessive noise and tourists being overcharged.

Although some pedicab operators expressed concerns that these restrictions would affect their income, Councilmember Stephen Whitburn, who led the campaign, emphasized the need for action due to frequent complaints about late-night disturbances and inflated fares. The new regulations aim to prevent tourists from being unexpectedly overcharged, promoting a fairer and more regulated environment.
