Funded by the inflation reduction act

The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) awarded a $2,733,177 contract to Guardian Construction Inc. for a pedestrian paving project at the Otay Mesa Port of Entry in San Diego.

The contract will be funded through the Inflation Reduction Act as part of President Biden's infrastructure agenda.

Under the 8(a) program, Guardian Construction will design and replace 11,240 square feet of porcelain tiles with low-carbon concrete.

This eco-friendly material will be used in the pedestrian inspection area where the tiles have been damaged by traffic.

The project aims to improve pedestrian infrastructure and highlights the GSA's commitment to sustainability.

According to Sukhee Kang, Regional Administrator of the GSA, the use of low-carbon concrete will enhance travelers' experience and reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

The use of low-carbon concrete will prevent the emission of 7.1 metric tons of CO2, meeting high environmental standards.

The project is part of the $3.4 billion allocated to the GSA to promote the use of low-carbon materials and sustainability in federal facilities.

The GSA aims to reduce over 2 million metric tons of emissions, equivalent to taking 500,000 vehicles off the road for a year.

Construction will begin in fall 2024 and is expected to be completed by winter 2025.
