The homicide of a deceased man is under investigation

A homicide investigation is underway in Lemon Grove after a person was shot and killed in the middle of a residential neighborhood on Wednesday night, authorities reported.

According to the San Diego Sheriff’s Department, several calls were received shortly before 11 p.m. reporting gunfire in the 2200 block of Dain Court, at the intersection with Elkhorn Street.

Responding officers found a 23-year-old man in the street with what appeared to be at least one gunshot wound to his torso. Authorities began life-saving measures while waiting for paramedics to arrive. Despite their efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lieutenant Mike Krugh spoke with FOX 5/KUSI around 5 a.m. Thursday, providing an update on the investigation. “At this time, we do not have any suspect information. We’ve been here for about three hours,” Lt. Krugh said. “We’re collecting evidence, talking to witnesses, and canvassing the area.”

Homicide investigators are working to gather more information to determine the circumstances and motivation behind the deadly shooting.
