San Diego is in third place in their division

The San Diego Padres split their series with the Seattle Mariners after a 5-2 loss last night, in a game where Mexican flamethrower Andrés Muñoz, a native of Los Mochis, Sinaloa, notched his 20th save of the 2024 MLB season.

Before a crowd of 21,129 fans at Seattle's T-Mobile Park, the Aztec closer pitched a flawless ninth inning, striking out two batters in the process. Muñoz needed just five pitches to retire Jurickson Profar, then struck out star Manny Machado, and finished his outing by inducing a grounder from Jake Cronenworth to second base.

In total, Muñoz threw 14 pitches, 9 of them strikes. He now has 70 strikeouts in 54 relief appearances in the 2024 MLB season.

The loss dropped the Padres to third place in the National League West, with a record of 82 wins and 65 losses.

Next up, the Padres will play a three-game road series against the San Francisco Giants starting this Friday.
