Authorities indicate that these violent acts in the region are due to a realignment of criminal groups operating in Tierra Caliente
Apatzingán and Buenavista, two municipalities in Michoacán, experienced a day of violence this Tuesday. From early morning, roadblocks and the burning of vehicles were reported on various roads in the region. Videos and photos shared on social media showed a truck in flames and multiple gunshots on the Apatzingán-Tepalcatepec highway near the town of Santa Ana.

Similar acts of violence were reported on the Apatzingán-Aguililla and Apatzingán-Buenavista highways, where a public transport bus was set on fire. In Buenavista, there was an attack on police officers with an explosive device launched from a drone, attributed to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) in their confrontation with a rival group.

Residents of Buenavista reported clashes and vehicle burnings in this area of Tierra Caliente. Images on social media warned of road closures in the towns of Santa Ana Amatlán and Zimanca, where at least two trucks were set on fire. In another video, municipal police officers were seen being attacked by explosive drones in the town of El 25, an attack attributed to the Los Viagras cartel.
The previous Monday, in the town of Limón de la Luna, the Mexican Army was attacked by the same criminal group. In addition to assaulting the soldiers, civilians launched explosive drones at homes, forcing residents to flee to the municipality of Tancítaro. There was also the burning of improvised armored vehicles, known as "monsters."
Authorities indicate that these violent acts in the region are due to a realignment of the criminal groups operating in Tierra Caliente. The Los Viagras cartel has allied with the CJNG to maintain control of Buenavista, an area that federal authorities are trying to reclaim. Following the roadblocks and vehicle burnings, the Army and the National Guard mobilized in the area to arrest those responsible.
