The dismembered body of the victim showed multiple burns

A Ukrainian citizen was found next to the dismembered body of a Russian woman, whose remains also showed multiple burns. The incident occurred in Yurimaguas, in the Loreto region of Peru, on Thursday, August 8.

José Ordóñez, the director of a spiritual healing center called Dos Mundos, was alerted by the loud screams of a woman on the premises. When he went to investigate, he encountered a terrifying scene. The woman, in a state of shock, reported that a foreigner staying at the center had just committed a murder.

The alleged perpetrator, a 38-year-old Ukrainian citizen identified as Ivan Kuzmin, was detained by the center's staff, who managed to subdue him, tying his hands and feet, and kept the situation under control until the police arrived. The victim, a Russian woman named Liudmila Lazarenko, was a mother with children in her home country.

Ivan Kuzmin was taken to the police station, where he arrived half-naked and displaying violent behavior, even attempting to bite one of the officers escorting him, according to videos released by local media.

José Ordóñez, in statements to the press, mentioned that both the attacker and the victim had been patients at the center, although they were no longer undergoing treatment at the time of the crime and were only staying there. Ordóñez also clarified that both were staying on the same floor of a bungalow and ruled out the possibility that Kuzmin had consumed ayahuasca before the crime, though he admitted not knowing the nature of their relationship.

The Peruvian Judiciary, through the Transitory Preparatory Investigation Court of Yurimaguas, scheduled a hearing for preventive detention against Ivan Kuzmin, requesting nine months of preventive detention for the murder and dismemberment of the Russian citizen. However, the hearing, scheduled for Monday, August 12, was postponed after Kuzmin became unwell and was taken to the hospital.

Authorities are investigating Kuzmin for the crime of aggravated homicide, in what is considered one of the most brutal crimes to have shaken the region in recent years.
