Hail and heavy rain were present in the region

On Sunday afternoon, the National Weather Service reported a powerful storm that brought heavy rain and hail to the Julian area. Around 1:30 p.m., weather authorities issued a severe thunderstorm warning for several mountainous areas in San Diego County, including Warner Springs, Oak Grove, Santa Ysabel, Lake Henshaw, Palomar Mountain, and the La Jolla Indian Reservation, according to a media outlet.

According to the weather service’s report, a system of strong to severe thunderstorms developed over State Highway 79 between Warner Springs and Oak Grove during that time. Winds reached speeds of up to 60 mph.

Shortly after 2 p.m., hail was recorded in downtown Julian, with a local webcam capturing the event. Another webcam near Julian showed heavy rain and storms sweeping through the region. The weather service described the phenomenon as "monsoonal" in nature.
