Despite his death occurring on Monday, it was confirmed by his relatives on Wednesday

Paul Alexander, who lived with a "steel lung" for over seven decades, passed away last Monday at the age of 78, as reported by his family and friends. The news was confirmed by GoFundMe, the platform that was raising funds to assist him in his final days.

Diagnosed with polio at the tender age of six in 1952, the Texas resident was paralyzed from the neck down, facing the only option of living in a "iron lung." In March 2023, the Guinness World Records recognized him as the patient who had survived the longest under such conditions.

Despite his physical limitations, Alexander pursued his dreams, graduating in law and establishing his own firm. Additionally, as an activist for the rights of people with disabilities, he organized sit-ins and left a legacy that inspired many people worldwide.

Philip Alexander, Paul's brother, expressed his gratitude to those who contributed to the fundraising on GoFundMe, ensuring that this allowed his brother to live his final years without worries and cover the funeral expenses in these difficult times.

"I am very grateful to everyone who made donations to raise funds for my brother," his brother mentioned.

Although the exact cause of his death has not been revealed, it is known that Paul Alexander was urgently admitted at the end of February after testing positive for Covid-19. Despite being discharged, he faced difficulties in eating and drinking.
