The attack left at least 26 injured

A local deputy identified as Sergiy Bratin, a member of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's party, Sluga Narodu (Servant of the People), detonated grenades during a village council meeting in the western region of Zakarpattia in Ukraine. The act left at least 26 people injured, as reported by the Ukrainian National Police on their social media channels.

The detonations, captured on video, led the police to classify the incident as a possible terrorist act. Authorities have transferred the investigation to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). Six of the injured individuals are in serious condition.

Initially, it was reported that a police officer had lost his life, but a subsequent statement clarified that doctors were performing resuscitation measures. The exact number of grenades detonated has not yet been established, and the motives behind the deputy's actions are unknown.

This incident, involving councilor Sergiy Bratin, has also prompted an investigation into his alleged illegal use of weapons, ammunition, or explosives, a crime under the Ukrainian penal code.

Ukraine has occasionally experienced incidents involving explosives, within a context where the country has been grappling with Russia's large-scale aggression since February 2022.
