The measure was approved by the city council yesterday

The Tijuana City Council approved the implementation of an expedited pass for cross-border students residing in Tijuana and attending schools in San Diego, aiming to reduce the time these students spend in line to cross the border.

This pass will allow students to use the so-called "medical lane," which currently benefits businesspeople conducting business in the city and Americans seeking medical attention in Tijuana.

Mayor Montserrat Caballero Ramírez stated that the measure will also contribute to improving mobility in the city and is intended for those who have been crossing the border to study in the United States for more than a year. Students interested in the expedited pass will need to pay a monthly fee of 5,500 pesos.

The City Council's approval took place yesterday, and the measure is expected to take effect in early 2024. However, there were concerns expressed by the medical community about the misuse of the pass, and the mayor acknowledged that there have been instances of corruption related to the expedited pass by some doctors, although specific names were not provided.
