Outrage in India over nude women in Manipur, a state affected by violence in India

A shocking video shows two naked women were being paraded in Manipur, India, a state affected by violent ethnic clashes. The police have launched an investigation into the gang rape and have arrested one man, with the promise of more arrests.

The incident sparked outrage in the parliamentary session in Delhi, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi finally addressed the issue, assuring that the culprits will not be forgiven.

The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, DY Chandrachud, expressed concern and warned the government to take appropriate action against the accused, intervening if necessary.

Manipur has been plunged into turmoil and violence for over two months due to clashes between the Meitei and Kuki communities, resulting in 130 deaths and 60,000 displaced individuals.

The two women in the video belong to the Kuki tribal community and were assaulted by men from the Meitei group. The federal government has called for the removal of the video from social media.

The Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF) reported atrocities in a village in Kangpokpi, where Kuki-Zo women were victims of gang rape after attacks and killings.

Police reports differ in the number of women raped, but politicians from all parties condemned the assault. Opposition leaders criticize the government for not controlling the violence in the state. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra from the Congress party described the images of sexual violence as heart-wrenching, and Delhi's Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, asserted that such heinous acts cannot be tolerated in Indian society.
