This year, the major Hollywood studios will be noticeably absent from the San Diego Comic-Con; however, for die-hard fans, this is good news.

The absence of major Hollywood studios at the 54th edition of San Diego Comic-Con has led to a partial return to the old days of comic conventions. The joint strike by actors and writers in Hollywood has been a determining factor for the major studios deciding not to attend this year. As a result, the panels in Hall H, where the big summer premieres were traditionally showcased, will be practically empty without the excitement and glamour of previous years.

Despite the lack of major studios, organizers and longtime attendees insist that Comic-Con is much more than just Hollywood presentations. They have emphasized the importance of personal connections, the energy, and the excitement felt at the event. Ashley Eckstein, a voice actress and founder of the pop culture clothing company Her Universe, highlights that Comic-Con is a unique experience that cannot be fully conveyed through the media.

While some fear that the lack of media coverage will affect the free exposure the convention brings to San Diego, experts point out that the true value lies in earned media. Press coverage, radio, and social media can have a significant impact on promoting the city and attracting other businesses and organizations to San Diego.

Comic-Con International is a nonprofit organization, but its operation generates millions of dollars for local businesses and for the organization itself. Although the absence of studios does not directly affect Comic-Con's revenue, the convention's economic impact on the region is significant. It is estimated that the convention has an impact of over $165 million in overall spending and over $90 million in direct spending by attendees.

Despite concerns about the future of Comic-Con, organizers are confident that the convention will regain its strength in the coming years. Although studios and franchises are organizing their own events, the decision to participate in Comic-Con largely depends on external events, such as strikes.

Comic-Con has a contract to remain in San Diego until 2024, and organizers hope that hotel rates and other crucial services can be negotiated to ensure its continuity in the city. Both organizers and attendees hope that Comic-Con will continue to be synonymous with San Diego and that the event will return with full force in the coming years.
