Search collectives highlight findings and government obstacles

According to data from the Special Prosecutor's Office for Missing Persons in Jalisco, the majority of clandestine graves discovered during the current administration are located in Tlajomulco de Zúñiga. Out of the 140 sites found, 63 are located in this municipality, representing 45% of the total. A total of 1,647 individuals have been located in these burial sites, covering the period from December 2018 to June 2023.

Indira Navarro, leader of the Mothers Searching Collective of Jalisco, confirmed that the majority of the graves have been found in Tlajomulco. She stated that around 80% of the findings are in that municipality, highlighting the importance of the collectives in these discoveries. Navarro mentioned the government obstacles that limit their work, including restricted access and lack of transparency in information.

Navarro mentioned they were working on a clandestine grave located in San Juan Evangelista, in Tlajomulco, before the recent explosive attack. However, the processing of the grave was halted and they were not provided with accurate information on the number of bodies found. She also denounced the limitations imposed on visibility and access to the site.

In response to the demonstration organized by search collectives to demand that search operations not be suspended, Navarro called on society to join the cause and raise their voices in solidarity.

According to information provided by Indira Navarro, a total of 51 bodies have been extracted from the clandestine grave located in San Juan Evangelista, Tlajomulco. Out of the victims, 50 are men and one is a woman. Navarro estimated that the processing of the site, which covers an area of approximately 100 meters, is not yet halfway complete. The grave was discovered on July 4th, and around 15 bodies have been extracted since then.

The Jalisco Prosecutor's Office has not provided updated information on this discovery and has maintained the confidentiality of results until the processing is completed. Additionally, the public register of clandestine graves only documents 12 findings between January and May 2023, of which eight were located in Tlajomulco.
