A species that had not given birth since 2006

From a population that has declined by as much as 40% in the last 50 years, the San Diego Zoo raised eyebrows by welcoming the first red panda cub in nearly two decades. The new member was born at the beginning of June, however it was not until now that he came out of the hole.

After the birth on June 9, the cub, which still has no name, and its mother, a red panda named "Adira" had remained in their burrow, without the cub appearing in plain sight.

It is worth mentioning that this species nurses its young from 13 to 22 weeks, and it is not until the sixth or seventh week that the new specimen begins to carry out the first explorations abroad, however it is until 3 months when it becomes totally independent.

For her part, the vice president and executive director of the San Diego Zoo, Erika Kohler, mentions that every birth in the park is extremely important, in this case it is even more so since it is a species that is under threat of extinction due to the rapid advance of human civilization invading their natural habitats.

It should be noted that this birth caused the attention of all the workers and guardians of the park since there has not been a birth of this species since 2006.
