He was convicted of sexual abuse and possession of child pornography

Larry Nassar, the convicted sports doctor who sexually abused gymnasts, was stabbed in a federal prison in Florida during an altercation with another inmate.

The attack took place at the United States Penitentiary in Coleman on Sunday, and Nassar was in stable condition on Monday, having suffered stab wounds to his back and chest.

Nassar has been convicted of sexual abuse and possession of child pornography, committed while working at Michigan State University and USA Gymnastics.

Over 100 women, including Simone Biles, have filed class-action lawsuits against the federal government for failing to stop Nassar when the accusations were first reported in 2015.

During victim impact statements in 2018, several athletes testified that over more than two decades of abuse, they had reported to adults, including coaches and athletic staff, about what was happening, but appropriate action was not taken.

In July 2021, the Inspector General of the Department of Justice identified errors made by the FBI in investigating the allegations against Nassar.

The Inspector General's investigation was initiated due to allegations that the FBI did not promptly address the accusations filed in 2015. USA Gymnastics conducted its own investigation before the FBI began a formal investigation.
