Despite its glamorous reputation, Los Angeles, California harbors neighborhoods with high crime rates and issues with homelessness. Here are the places you should avoid

At first glance, Los Angeles may appear to be a sunny paradise with beautiful beaches and a glamorous lifestyle inspired by movies. However, the City of Angels also has its dark side, with several neighborhoods considered extremely dangerous and facing challenges with increasing homelessness and crime.

Here we present the seven most dangerous neighborhoods that visitors should avoid when coming to Los Angeles or if they are considering moving to the city:

—Downtown LA

—West Adams

—Wholesale District/Skid Row

—Compton

—North Hollywood

—South Los Ángeles

—Hollywood

Undoubtedly, downtown Los Angeles is one of the most unsafe places in the entire state, with high crime rates and illicit activities. According to FBI crime statistics from 2021, Downtown LA has an exceptionally high rate of violent crimes, making it 12 times more dangerous than the national average.

When property crimes are taken into account, the overall crime rate in downtown Los Angeles is 530% higher than the national average. In 2022, the Police Department recorded a total of 1,702 violent crimes, and in 2018, the homicide rate in the area reached a historic high of 490.

Authorities warn people to avoid walking alone or in groups during the night in downtown Los Angeles. The homeless community continues to grow in this area, and assaults are very common during late hours. The most dangerous streets are south of 3rd Street, west of Alameda Street, and east of Main Street.

The reality is that Los Angeles, despite its tourist appeal and fame in the entertainment industry, faces significant security challenges in certain neighborhoods. It is important for visitors and those considering settling in the city to be aware of these risks and take necessary precautions to ensure their personal safety.
