Ukraine withstands the largest Russian drone attack in Kiev, resulting in two deaths and extensive damage

Ukraine successfully repelled the largest drone attack from Russia since the beginning of the invasion, as reported by military authorities. The attack, which lasted over 5 hours, resulted in at least two deaths and three injuries in the Ukrainian capital.

The Ukrainian Air Force reported a total of 54 explosive drones launched, with 52 being destroyed. The majority of the drones, around 40, were targeted at Kiev. This has been classified as the most significant drone attack on the capital since the invasion began 15 months ago.

President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his gratitude to the Ukrainian forces, calling them heroes. "Every time they shoot down enemy drones and missiles, lives are saved," Zelensky stated in a Telegram message.

Despite the effective defensive response, the attacks caused significant damage in the city, with broken windows and damaged roofs. Additionally, there were two reported fatalities and three injuries in the capital, according to authorities. Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko described the attack as "massive" and noted that the drones were launched from multiple directions simultaneously.

This event marks the fourteenth Russian drone attack on Kiev since the beginning of May. While the capital had relatively avoided such offensives earlier this year, this attack underscores the persistent threat and challenge Ukraine faces. Authorities continue to investigate and assess the damages caused by the incident.
