The city has welcomed over 67,000 people

New York City Mayor Eric Adams' decision to send migrants to hotels in Rockland and Orange counties due to overcrowding in the city's shelters has generated a legal conflict and impacted the wedding plans of several couples.

Sean and Nicole, who had planned their wedding at The Crossroads hotel in Orange, had reserved 37 rooms for their guests coming from different parts of the world, but had to cancel all their reservations after the first group of migrants was sent to the same hotel.

Gary and Deanna were also affected by the cancellation of their more than 15 reserved rooms at The Crossroads Hotel for their wedding scheduled for June 24th.

Since August 2022, the arrival of immigrants to New York has caused a humanitarian and resource crisis, leading the city to rent rooms in 120 hotels, including hotels in Rockland and Orange, which have also become overcrowded.

The city has welcomed over 67,000 people, mostly from Venezuela, and is providing shelter, food, and social services to over 37,000 people.

Due to the overcrowding of the city's shelters, Adams decided to send migrants to hotels in Rockland and Orange counties, which sparked opposition from county officials who went to court to stop Adams' decision.

The city of Yonkers will also receive dozens of migrant families, and its mayor complained of not being notified in advance.

The legal controversy continues and the first hearing to address the migrant sending situation is expected to take place on Monday.
